My interest in photography began at an early age when I picked up my grandfather’s twin lens reflex camera and began taking pictures. Later, while serving in the U.S. Navy I bought an 8mm movie camera, took it with me aboard the USS Kittyhawk and made movies while in the Gulf of Tonkin and various naval ports.
Following my tour of duty in the military, I entered college to study business, and in my spare time, took still photos for the college newspaper and magazine. That’s when I decided to pursue still photography as a career.
After earning a degree in business administration, I enrolled at the Southeastern Center for Photographic Studies in Daytona Beach, Florida where I graduated with honors.
I then landed a job with Alderman Studios in High Point, North Carolina shooting products for catalogs and advertising. In 1983 I was recruited by 3 Score Studios in Atlanta where I worked for two years before creating Schilling Photography. I began working for Veranda, a new shelter magazine that began in 1983. My next great and long-time client was a start up company called Currey & Company that I have worked with for over 20 years.
Fortunately, I’ve worked with a vast number of wonderful people throughout the years and have enjoyed every minute of those experiences. I appreciate these business connections and being able to contribute something of value. As a bonus, I’ve made some good friends along the way. |
